How do you see yourself part 1

How do you see yourself ? part 1

Raelene Byrne - Medicine for Your Spirit - Thursday, January 19, 2012

How do you see yourself? When people tell you how they see you, not in a critical or judgemental way, but in a way that is about you being amazing, how do you respond?

Do you discount it, deflect it, rubbish the compliments, distract the conversation from that comment, or can you really accept what that person is saying to you?

Our upbringing has been infected and influenced with the majority of the population playing small, perhaps disregarding the compliments, throwing off, and playing down the very skills and talents that we offer as our services, expertise and wisdoms.

We have been taught and reminded to say thank you to a compliment, this is ‘good manners’,  however is it that easy when it is about something you do or offer as your work in the world. When you are exceptional, or ‘gifted’ or seem to have something that is unique, perhaps you have truly mastered your craft, can you honestly take the sentiments of praise knowing that you deserve them. Not from arrogance or ego, but from the place of truth?

God help us if we actually say YES I know I am good at what I do, and  mean it.

Have you ever thought that when a person tells you how incredible you are and you say No, I just…...blah blah blah……..in actuality, you have called them a liar. You have discredited their attempt to offer you acknowledgement of your skills and talents.

It took me years to accept and acknowledge the recognition of the services that I offer, and the turning point came when a close friend, don’t you love it when your friends are completely and brutally honest with you, called me on my ‘attitude to playing meek and small”

Her words of wisdom struck me and the ownership, that the choices I make every day to live a life that allows me to be the best I can be for others as I offer my services, is now something that I share and speak of with ease. To offer the best we can to others, takes dedication, discipline, sacrifice, in my case, many lifestyle changes including dietary, and the complete commitment to walking my talk.

So many of us study for years, we are always attending courses and seminars, workshops and meetings, to keep our skills upgraded, to keep refreshed and to open up to and to embrace new ways for the people that we work with in our businesses. This allows us to be masters in our chosen fields.

So why does society as a whole condemn a person who says Yes I know that what I offer is really great. We talk about instilling confidence in our children, yet when they start to say how good they are, we immediately tell them not to brag, Mixed messages from a young age still play out in our lives.

To own your strengths, gifts, hard work, and dedication to your craft, paves the way for others to offer acknowledgement and recognise that it is within everyone’s grasp. There is no place for ego, arrogance or an attitude of superiority when you are coming from your heart and offering that as your business or service.

When your truth, conviction and belief, about what you offer as a service is on display for all to see and experience, the  benefits are  felt,  and change is occurring, then every one of us deserves to say, yes I am good at what I do and that was  a job well done.

I honour every one of you for having the courage to offer yourself to the world. You are all doing the most amazing job and you are brilliant with what you do.

Namaste
