THE YEAR OF SELF LOVE
Sitting with a group of friends after a deliciously hectic time of raw cacao making and the conversation turned to the year that we have all journeyed. After each of us mentioned that we were ‘more than happy’ to say goodbye, ciao, sayonara, and good riddance to the year that was, we set about saying what we actually wanted for the year ahead.
I listened as each person said that what they needed and wanted to experience is more time for self, less worrying about what others think, less “doing” for others out of obligation, to engage in more activities that they enjoyed and wanted to embrace. What I heard as each person spoke, was the underlying theme……….More Self Love.
So I have declared 2012 as the year of self-love.
Complete devotion to the spirit that each of us is and allowing that to exist without guilt, recriminations, shame, discomfort and to totally celebrate the fact that self-love is a birth right for each of us. In fact, it is step towards liberation from all the external beliefs, strategies and conditions that have formed us in to the person that we see in the mirror each day.
What does that mean……how do we step towards that and live in that space.
I used to think love of self, meant being able to say No, without any guilt………Now I know it is so much more than that.
Complete self-love is the honouring of you, all of you .The total self-acceptance, self-appreciation and non-judgement of every part of your being. Holding the flaws, shadows and less than perfect traits in the same loving light as the perfections, virtues and light that you are. Understanding that we are all perfect with our imperfections. Loving those parts of us that we judge as “unlovable”, and then making those aspects an ally as we understand and work with them to create more wholeness and strength. Bringing all the parts of ourselves together to live the unique and the exquisiteness of our individual selves.
Everything that makes us whole, is the miracle of life and your spirit. What we all have to remember is that we are LOVE, at the core of our spirit and soul. By actioning that in our daily lives, we are directing others on how to bring that into their lives and showing others how we wish to be treated.
Remember when a baby enters this world; our hearts are overflowing with love at the sight. Can you hold yourself in that same energy? Are you worthy to be gifting that feeling to yourself? Do you deserve that amount of love in your heart and world just for you?
It does not mean we are living in a world of arrogance, ego or narcissism: that is not self-love, it is a form of self-abuse, as we shut ourselves away from love and who we really are.
To be complete and to offer who we really are in any relationship, romantic, friend, work colleague, or relative, we have to know who we are. When we can be truthful about every part of who we really are, then we conduct life through the heart of self-love.
It has been said the more we love our self, the more we can love another. I challenge you to do this. See how people respond when you live from that heart space and birth right.
"You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection." Siddhartha Gautama Buddha
As we birth this New Year, the opportunity for brilliance, greatness and magnificence, that we all are, make a commitment to you and those in your life to move into the power of self-love. Treat yourself as you would a person you love deeply.
Be kind to yourself. Be Forgiving, Be understanding, Be Compassionate, Be Clear, Be Soft, Be Generous, Be Gracious, Be Truthful, BE YOU for there is no one anywhere on this earth that is like you..
This year we can create and amplify a wave of awareness and community through the act of self-love.
Be all that you are, love all that you are and show others who they are, through self-love.
Namaste
